Mt. Caesar Elementary School

We’re very proud of the new classrooms at Mt. Caesar; it gives us a great vision for the type of work we can do with our existing buildings. There are still a few more projects to complete to support the current  Pre-K thru 2nd grade population, but the ultimate plan is to expand Mt. Caesar campus to support all Preschool thru 6th grade students from Richmond, Roxbury, and Swanzey.

Proposed Solutions:

  • A new secure main entrance will be built along with a new administrative office to oversee it. A new nurses office will also be in the new addition
  • A new multi-purpose space for physical education, meal service, and fine art performances will be added with the ability to access them after-hours for community use
  • A new two story classroom wing will be built to accommodate the added enrollment due to closing Cutler
    • The new wing will include properly sized kindergarten classrooms on the first floor
    • Existing classrooms will be reassigned to allow better collaboration
    • The second floor of the new addition will contain the 5th and 6th grades
  • A new library will be built with access from the main entrance for after-hours use
  • Central courtyard space will groomed as outdoor meal and educational space

Educational Benefits:

  • The new multipurpose space will have separate areas for cafeteria and gymnasium, which allows for more flexible scheduling of lunch, PE, music, and dance.  This is key to supporting the ‘A’ (arts) in our STEAM philosophy
  • The new multipurpose space will allow for things Mt. Caesar students have not experienced, such as full school assemblies and a dedicated space for dance and musical performances
  • Appropriately sized classrooms for kindergarten with in-room plumbing fixtures
  • New outdoor learning spaces (science!)
  • New organization of classrooms will promote more grade-level collaboration amongst the staff, and allow for better ‘on the spot’ support from floating resources like math and reading specialists
